This the one! I been doing tattoos for 5 years and tried all the creams out there. This one is by far the best! Don't change the skin or feel greasy like others do. It also don't make the skin angry. You want all that when you're working on dark skin. Plus, you get it fast for a couple $$ and can always find a discount!

Great experience the whole way through

TL;DR Great experience the whole way through. Communication and quality.

I've been getting tattooed for the past five years, and I have a couple larger pieces that I want to finish even though I'm kinda sick of getting tattooed, lol! I was shopping around for different numbing products and decided to call these guys and see what they said. First, I liked that I left a message and they actually called me right back. And then I talked to Mike for almost an hour. He explained the process of how to use not only his products, but creams from other brands as well. He texted me links to instructions and tips, and he didn't try to sell me anything. So of course I bought his! I'm very happy that I did. Used it on my lower abdomen and got in 2.5 hours before I started to get sore. I'm about to buy a couple more tubes and finish my belly and back. Great company, great product.

Thanks Mike!!!

Best for Brows

I use this numbing cream for brows. It works really well and all my clients love it. I really like that I can order online and pickup at Historic when I'm in town. Super convenient!

Got the spray as part of a bundle

Got the spray as part of a bundle. I didn't need it because the numbing cream worked so well, but the other people that tried it said it was killer. The other tattooers at the shop were passing it around and testing it as I was finishing.

I'm surprised how good it works

Used this a few days ago for a small tat on each of my outer ankle bones. Only left the cream on for about 30 minutes for the first one and about 90 minutes for second one. First one I could feel it, but wasn't that bad at all. Second one I felt nothing. It was very strange, but very cool! I'm a happy customer.

Great product from a great company. Been using their numbing cream for just about a year. Always works, clients love it, and heals are perfect.

Ingredients.

Why does it say it has those ingredients but I just got the tub and it has prilocain and adrenaline? SUPER SUPER misleading.

Hi Alex, I think there is a mix-up here. Our product does not come in a tub, and it does not contain adrenaline. Our active ingredients are listed on the box that your product comes in so that you know what is in them. In any case, we will be happy for you to return them if you are not satisfied. Please reach out to our customer service at contact@xpaintattoo.com Thanks!

Great Stuff!

Been using the numbing cream from No Pain for a while and tried this healing balm recently. It works really well, it's easy to use, it's hypoallergenic, non greasy, and you get a lot. I've healed multiple tattoos with it now.

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

By far the BEST numbing I've used. I'm getting older, things are starting to hurt way more, and I want to finish my tats. Tried some other products and the results were pretty varied. No Pain though...this is the best! I'm getting a bunch of small filler pieces that take like 30 - 45 minutes, but in tough areas. I was completely numb the entire time! Didn't feel anything! I was recommended this product from a tattooer at the shop I go to. She said it's the only one she uses on her clients, and I see why. Love it!

Got this in a bundle I ordered

Got this in a bundle I ordered. Soothing gel is my second fav product (numbing cream is my first). Did my lower belly and my skin was a little angry at me. Put a thin layer of this gel after I washed it and went to bed. Next morning it looked and felt a lot better.

Great product!!!

Got this as part of a bundle. I used it when I started my lower belly. Worked really well for me. We got the lines done and some of the shading over about three hours. I didn't feel ANY of the lines!

Best product!

I use this for microblading, PMU, and some laser treatments. It's the best for facial numbing that I've used in 14 years of owning a spa. Really great company too. I always talk to Mike and he takes good care of us. I appreciate the personal touch. Thanks, Mike!

This is the one!

I've used a bunch of different kinds of creams and this one works consistently well. I did the outline and a little of the shading on my foot and ankle before it started to wear off. That was over two hours!
TIP: if you've never used this before, call them. I spoke with the owner of the company on a SUNDAY and he was happy to tell me about the products and give me advice on using it. We probably talked for 30 minutes. He was really cool and asked me about my tattoos and was genuinely interested in more than selling me his products.
110% a great experience! Thank you!

Spray was very helpful at the end

Spray was very helpful at the end. Was getting a rib piece that I was not looking forward to. Numbing cream first, then this spray about an hour and a half later.

Super Happy!

Worked on my back today for the first time in 2 years! I did the outline 3 years ago and only went back for 2 quick sessions after. I was committed to having a partially tattooed back for life because it hurt so much. A friend from work got me to try this numbing cream and it made it very tolerable for almost 2 hours. Some parts I felt a little bit, but most parts were totally numb! Now I can finish my back piece! I'm super happy!

Applied 2 hours before a neck wrap and was numb for about 30 mins

Applied 2 hours before a neck wrap and was numb for about 30 mins.

Hey Kyle,

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. My name is Mike and I am the owner/founder of No Pain Tattoo. This result that you've had is NOT typical of our products. I would have never made them publicly available if it was.

First I would like to say that because of yours, and one other review, we are going to change the information that we send out with our products. We will make this an opportunity to change the company for the better. So thank you.

Yesterday I checked the product from the batch that you were sent. I applied it at 2:30PM to my entire elbow area including the outer-elbow and ditch (using half a tube) and I was numb until I went to sleep at 11:30PM. It doesn’t last this long when getting tattooed because introducing trauma/bleeding will slowly dislodge the lidocaine. But this does show that the product is working as it should.

With that said. You will find the following helpful.

The most common reason for little/no numbing (or numbing that doesn't last) pore blockage. If you have used moisturizer, cleanser, or exfoliator that has coconut (or any other fatty substance as its base) it causes exactly what you have described.

When I am developing these products, I usually do both sides of my body at the same time; one side with the product, and one side without. When I did the tops of my feet I exfoliated with a coconut oil based exfoliant. And I got exactly the result that you're describing. It took some work with medical consultants to figure out the issue, but I tried the sides of both of my feet and got the same result (one foot scrubbed with a coconut based exfoliant, and the other side with mild soap and water). The soap and water side was numb for the entire session, and the coconut oil exfoliant never got fully numb and was only partially numb for about 20 minutes.
This pore blockage can also be caused by a person's individual skin type (oily skin) and extra care needs to be taken when prepping for the product.

The second-most common reason for little/no numbing (or numbing that doesn't last) is is wiping the area with alcohol after taking off the plastic wrap (which is step 10 in the instructions below). Always sanitize the area before you put the cream on: Wash, sanitize, and THEN apply (same for the patch test). Then wipe the area and begin, our numbing cream (unlike others) will NOT affect the stencil.

Other factors that can cause your result:
1. Heavy-handed artist. When a tattooer is causing unnecessary trauma, the extra bleeding can push out the active ingredients from the nerve endings. This 'unblocks' the pain signals, allowing the nerve endings to function normally - and painfully!
2. Going back in and working the same area over and over again. Every time you work an area, you are dislodging the active ingredients.
3. An area that causes more than usual bleeding (bony areas are known for this).
4. Consistent use of lidocaine (lidocaine-tolerance) (your body can build up a tolerance for lidocaine rather quickly).
5. Moderate/heavy use of alcohol or caffeine Thins the blood and causes inflammation.
6. Use of Tylenol, ibuprofen, or other blood thinners. (causes excess bleeding that can dislodge the product from the applied area similar to the Heavy-handed artist).
7. Being a ginger/redhead (especially of Irish/Scottish ancestry) the MC1R Gene may be present and is documented to make a person more biologically resistant to pain relievers such as lidocaine. There really isn't much you can do about this, just follow the instructions but you're not going to get the relief that others that do not have the MC1R gene will get.
8. Other Biological and Environmental Causes of Lidocaine Tolerance - The following can make a huge difference in your body’s ability to allow lidocaine to do its job:
-Anxiety & Stress: High stress levels are documented to make nerves more active, reducing anesthetic effectiveness.
-Chronic Substance Use: According to research, long-term alcohol or opioid use can induce tolerance, requiring more lidocaine for the same effect, according to research.
-Anatomic Variations: Unusual nerve paths or high blood flow can speed up drug removal.
-Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS): Persons with EDS often report significant resistance or rapid wearing off of local anesthetics, with causes still being researched.

All numbing creams behave in this manner. I’ve tested just about all of them, and ours is much better at conquering these limitations. But if you do choose another brand, you should bring this knowledge with you as it will make your experience much better.

Here are the detailed, long-version instructions.

1. Perform a patch test for safety 24 hours prior to fully using the product.
2. Do not drink alcohol for 48 hours before your appointment, and for 24 hours after. It causes inflammation and thins your blood. This is not good for the numbing cream, nor a healing tattoo.
3. Perform a spot test 24 hours prior to using the cream. You can find the details here.
4. Wash the area thoroughly with plain old soap and water. Nothing scented, nothing fancy.
5. Sanitize with alcohol. It is important to sanitize the area at this stage as opposed to after the wrap comes off.
6. Apply the first layer and rub the cream in. This is the priming layer.
7. Apply a second generous layer and do NOT rub it in. Like you’re frosting a cake.
8. Wrap tightly with Saran Wrap or other plastic cling film. You don’t want to constrict the area, but it should be wrapped tightly.
9. Wait two hours.
10. Remove wrap and wipe off excess cream with a paper towel.
11. Begin the session/procedure as normal.

If you have any questions about any of this, you can reach me at contact@xpaintattoo.com or call/text: +1 (503) 610-0963. Seriously, call me if you want to discuss.

-Mike

Glad I had this

Used this after the numbing cream when my client started feeling it. It got her through to finish (double knee ditch trad peonies). The only thing I want to point out here is it does change the skin a bit. All of these sprays do. It's way better than the Vaso spray. I got bad heals with that one, but all the work I've done with this spray is healing fine.
I don't really want to be using numbing products, but it's slow and I'm getting too old to deal with my client jumping around.

Way better than I expected

Did a couple palm sized trad peonies on clients knee ditches. Said they didn't feel a thing until the end (about an hour each). Then we just went with the spray and it got her through it. I don't usually use this sort of thing cuz I've had bad experience with other brands, but she was really scared. My client was happy so I'm happy.

Ehhh

You get about 40min of "ok" numbing after letting it sit for the max time recommended. I only used one of the 2 bottles and I threw the other one away. The spray was not good either. Would not recommend.
